Values Card Sort

Values Card Sort

This was an in class activity where we sorted 83 values into three categories: Very Important to Me, Important to Me, and Not Important to Me. We eventually had to narrow it down to our top three; my top three were autonomy, order and nurturance. They are represented throughout my website, spacing out groups of assignments.

My name is Alexyss Kiedrowski, and I'm a Biochemistry major. I'm really going for Pre-Med though, so I can become an OB-GYN or reproductive endocrinologist. My mom is a nurse, and I've always looked up to her because of it. That's not the only reason I want to go into the medical field; I want to help people. I want to bring life into the world. Being a reproductive endocrinologist means helping infertile women have babies of their own. I just think that's so cool.

I'm from Trempealeau, WI, which is about 40 minutes from Viterbo, and my family has managed to move a total of ten times within this area. I was able to stay at my same school district the whole time which was nice, but now I wish I would've moved in with my mom fully instead to West Salem so I could've met more people. I graduated from G-E-T in 2020 and can say that I'm ready for what the future holds.

Autonomy image
Autonomy means that you value being self-determined and independent, which I think I clearly do. Ever since freshmen year of high school I could tell that this was one of my top values because of my grades. In my first semester of that year, I had some B's and I didn't like seeing that, so I turned that around and started getting all A's. After that year, I just kept going and kept that 4.0 GPA and was ranked 5th in my class considering we had 3 valedictorians. Not only do I try and keep my grades up, I try and give myself little challenges to complete so I don't get bored or to give myself some self satisfaction. For example, I stopped drinking pop for a year out of no where and did it. I've also painted my ceiling in my room and hung up a 120 photo college; both of those projects together took at least 17 hours to complete. If that doesn't scream self determination, I don't know what does. That trait/value is what is carrying me through school right now while working, so I'd have to say that it is very important to me and that I couldn't live without it right now.

Order image
Order means that you value having a life that is well-ordered and organized. I very much have had this perfectionist outlook from my dad for as long as I can remember. Everything in my life is organized; there is not a thing that isn't. My wardrobe is of course organized from top to bottom according to weather. I also have a few shelves filled with lotions, perfumes, and candles that are organized in order of color. When it comes to having a lot of school work one week, I will write out all of my assignments and plan out what days I will do them, so I can't stress about them and know they will get done. I like to make sure everything is planned out to the nitty gritty because I want to make sure whatever it is will get done right in the right amount of time.

Nurterance  image
Nurturance means to value taking care of and nurturing others which is something that has always been valued by me. When I was in elementary school, we had to pick what we wanted to be when we grew up, and I always said a nurse because of my mom. As soon as middle school came, I knew I had to actually start thinking about what I really wanted to be. I knew that I always loved taking care of babies, so I tried to connect that love to my desire of being in the medical field. That's what made me want to be an OB-GYN or a reproductive endocrinologist. A reproductive endocrinologist would be an end goal job because I would be able to help women who are not fertile have babies of their own which sounds like an amazing job to me. Nurturance is not only important to me because of my future career, it's important to me because I've been helping take care of my dad since I was in at least the eighth grade. He has some issues that make it hard for him to do things, so I've been helping him get his license and disability for the past six or so years. My family has always come first, and I love being able to help them. I can't wait to be able to help more people when I become a doctor.
